Embracing the Dark Side: a Disney Villain Themed Wedding
Today marks the 25th Anniversary of Bats Day at Disneyland Resort, CA. The annual event created by Californian Goth clubs Absynthe and Release the Bats, where Goths from all over the world descend on Disneyland to appreciate all things DisneyGoth.
So it seems only fitting that today we share Kayleigh and Peters’ Disney Villain Wedding, drawing inspiration from the twisted tales of Maleficent, Ursula, and the Evil Queen, their special day was a mesmerizing blend of enchantment and darkness.
Our very own Vicky Dubois was there to capture the magic of the day in every frame, ensuring the fun and romance of Kayleigh and Peter’s Disney Villain theme wedding would be preserved for eternity.
Kayleigh, designed a bespoke wedding dress with Legend Bridal. Kayleigh had a clear idea of what she wanted her dress to look like; satin high-low hem with teal peeking through and a belt with Disney Villain characters and motifs embroidered on velvet. She chose to enhance her gown with the Asta cape adorned with Jack and Sally’s lyrics ‘Simply meant to be’ in black flocked velvet. Kayleigh was a dark queen in her own right.
Peter, her partner in darkness, complemented her with a bespoke suit in dark teal wool and purple paisley lining that echoed Disney's most notorious villains. His ensemble spoke of power and sophistication. Together, they stood as a formidable duo, united in their love for each other and their shared fascination with the darker side of Disney.
The decor embraced the spirit of Disney Villains with a twist of gothic charm. Each table represented a different Villain; “we both spent a lot of time in many an antique store to get the centre piece items and seating chart pieces. I then crafted various aspects to bring it all together”
The wedding cake was artfully created by Fairy Dust Cake Shop; a towering edifice topped with a poisoned apple and carrying a mirror reflecting the portrait of an evil queen. Each tier a teal masterpiece.
Music was a key part of Kayleigh and Peters’ wedding. Incorporating Go the Distance from Hercules and Married Life from Up into the ceremony.
“Our favourite moment would have to be the first dance”, Kayleigh concluded. “Neither of us are the greatest dancers, so seeing and hearing our friends and families reaction to Tenacious D’s Fuck her Gently was a highlight, this followed by being able to throw ourselves around to Slipknots Duality to start the evening”
As the night drew to a close, Kayleigh and Peter stood beneath a sky scattered with stars, their hands clasped together in a silent vow of eternity. In that moment, surrounded by the echoes of Disney's darkest tales, they knew that their love was a force more powerful than any curse, more enduring than any spell.
